At the start of group 4 the reading level has to be AVI E3 at least and in the end it has to be AVI E4. It is important that the speed of reading is fast because they will work a lot on reading and understanding. The level of reading an understanding of the child is very important for the arithmetic results on school (story stums are most asked on Citotests).
For mental arithmetic they have to be able to make calculations until 100 and they will start with multiplications (1st halfyear: tables 2, 3, 4, 5, 10 – 2nd halfyear: 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12). In the end of group 4 they have to know the multiplication tables up to 10 (in group 5 the tables have to be memorized). Most schools will also start with the explanation of dividing.
The reading level at the end of group 4 has to be at least: AVI E4.
Homework
I will start giving homework for children of group 4 every week. Including giving a new book to read and answer questions about it every week.
That is a good preperation for the higher groups and will make the children get used to make homework weekly already.
What I am going to work on with children of group 4:
1. Reading books with child (Theater books make reading enjoyable)
2. Talking about the book the child had to read for that week
3. Giving Dictation matched to the level at school
4. Practising mental arithmetic (up to 100)
5. Practising Reading and Understanding (with roadmap + signal words)
6. Practising a lot story sums (with roadmap + keywords as well)
7. Making mindmaps to practise vocabulary
8. Making Trial Citotest extercises –> Middle + End group 4 level (M4 + E4)
9. Making One Minute Reading Tests + Technical Reading Tests for AVI level
