In group 1 and 2 school starts for children but the focus is still on playing with other children. They learn most from the playing with each other and for speaking ability and vocabulary it is the best way to learn Dutch. During group 2 the school will pay more attention to the letters and numbers. In the end of group 2 the children are expected to know at least 16 letters (with the pronunciation of group 3 à not phonetic) and the numbers from 0 up to 20. They will also practise writing letters and numbers more and more.
My focus is to make the children as prepared as possible for group 3. That is important because in group 3 the real learning process is starting with reading, (mental) arithmetic, spelling and writing!
What I am going to work on with children from group 1 & 2:
1. Talking and listening carefully to child for improving speaking ability
2. Reading books
3. Playing interactive games
4. Teaching how to deal with losing games
5. Teaching the letters of alphabet (phonetic pronounciation)
6. Teaching numbers till 20
7. Practising writing letters and numbers
8. Teaching Dutch vocabulary
9. Doing vocabulary game for group 1 & 2 on computer
10. Supplying materials of season (for example: acorns, conkers, pine cones)
11. Printing out workbooks for group 1 & 2 (to practise letters and numbers)
